Family Tree Trivia: The Outer planet Uranus (ancient name Ouranus) is named after the ancient Greek supreme being of the higher world, heaven. Sir William Herschel (Scorpio born 15 November 1738, Hanover, Germany) announced its discovery on March 13, 1781, the first discovery of a planet using a telescope. Hershal also discovered the moons of Uranus and Saturn. Though Uranus is visible to the naked eye, like the five classical planets closest to Earth (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn). Uranus was seen many times, (earliest recorded 1690), but it appeared to be a star so it was never recognized as a planet because of its dimness and slow orbit. Uranus is the modern ruler of Aquarius (ancient ruler Saturn), who’s opposite sign is Leo, ruled by the Sun.
To the ancient Greeks, Uranus was the ...
- THE earliest supreme being of the heavens
- mate of Gaia (Earth)
- son of Gaia (Earth)
- father of Kronos (Saturn)
- grandfather of Zeus (Jupiter)
Obviously, Uranus was a busy guy.
Days of the Week,
Sunday is named after the Sun
Day of Sun. The Sun is symbolized as male energy, El Sol is associated with “the father”. The Sun is our force of will to survive and to thrive. To encourage others and to shine! Too much Sun can create domineering egocentric behavior and of course, sunburn :-)
- Using Geocentric or Heliocentric calculation methods, the Sun never Retrogrades, it always moves in DIRECT motion spending about 30 days in each sign.

The Moon is lunar and rules our emotional landscape, moods, intuition, our inner secretary, nurturer, cook, babysitter, housekeeper and caretaker. Too much Moon can create smothering others, extreme mood swings, and a sense of distorted reality where emotions becoming out of kilter and are not balanced with clear thinking and logic.
- Using Geocentric or Heliocentric calculation methods, the Moon never Retrogrades, it always moves in DIRECT motion spending about 2.5 days in each sign with a New and Full Moon every 29-30 days and there are always 2 pairs of Solar and Lunar Eclipses each year.
- Using Geocentric calculation methods, the North and South Lunar Nodes, often called the Dragon’s Head and Tail are also considered (but not used in Heliocentric charting).

- Using Geocentric calculation methods, Mars moves in direct motion for awhile through each sign and then slows down to stop, and then RETROGRADES (RX) about every other year which can last for months as it goes back and forth over the same ground in the same sign.
- Using Heliocentric calculation methods the planet is always Direct (no planets Retrograde).
Mars rules the core identity of Aries and Scorpio .

It’s a fast moving changeable planet and is often called the trickster, and it’s directly connected with business commerce and media. Too much Mercury can create confusion, miscommunications, misunderstanding, and placing more importance on logic than feelings.
- Using Geocentric calculation methods, Mercury moves in direct motion for awhile through the signs and then slows down to stop, and then RETROGRADES (RX) 3 times each year, each lasting 3.5 weeks and it can be in a single sign or span two signs during that time. But that’s not the full story because there is also the pre and post Retrograde windows of time that precede and follow each Retro cycle before and after the actual 3.5 week Retrograde dates. So technically, Mercury is only NOT in some form of Retrograde for 85 days out of every calendar year.
- Using Heliocentric calculation methods the planet is always Direct (no planets Retrograde).
Mercury rules the core identity of Gemini and Virgo .
